In Hessen stehen der Bevölkerung rund 1.500 Apotheken für die Arzneimittelversorgung zur Verfügung. Jede Apotheke ist gesetzlich verpflichtet am Apothekennotdienst teilzunehmen. Der Apothekennotdienst geht jedoch oftmals über den gesetzlichen Auftrag hinaus.

Apotheker dürfen eine Notdienstgebühr erheben. Das ist ihr Honorar dafür, dass sie den gesetzlich vorgeschriebenen Notdienst machen. Die Notdienstgebühr beträgt 2,50 Euro und ist einmal pro Notdienst-Besuch zu entrichten, egal wie viele Rezepte Sie vorlegen und wie viele Arzneimittel Sie kaufen.
